About the plan

Welcome to the home of the Bury Neighbourhood Plan. The Localism Act 2011 enabled local people to make a plan that would guide development of our parish - this plan will be taken into account when future planning decisions are taken by Parish Council and the South Downs National Park Authority. The intent is to make the process more ‘bottom-up’ rather than ‘top-down’ and to give local people’s views more weight.

A Steering Group was set up by the Parish Council (who are the designated body to prepare the plan) and they are preparing a plan for Bury Parish. The intention is to prepare a plan to provide a clear framework to guide residents, local authorities and developers as to how the community wish to shape future development within the Parish over the next 15 years from 2017-2032.

Once it has been agreed at referendum and ‘made’, a neighbourhood plan has the same legal status as the Local Plan prepared by the relevant Local Planning Authorities (South Downs National Park Authority & Chichester District Council). At this point it becomes part of the statutory ‘development plan’ and used in the determination of planning applications.
