How to respond to the consultation

We are seeking your views on the Neighbourhood Plan, the Neighbourhood Plan Map and evidence base (all available to download below). We want to know if you think that the plan sets out a positive and sustainable way for development to occur over the next 15 years. All comments are welcome that will help ensure the document is an accurate reflection of the community’s views of and aspirations for the Parish. Also, please let us know if we have made any mistakes (for instance factual inaccuracies, typos, or inconsistencies) so these can be corrected in the final version.

To respond, either collect a paper response form from the Village Hall ( in the entrance hall ) or download the form below. Once it has been completed please return it before the end of the consultation period:

About the plan

Welcome to the home of the Bury Neighbourhood Plan. The Localism Act 2011 enabled local people to make a plan that would guide development of our parish - this plan will be taken into account when future planning decisions are taken by Parish Council and the South Downs National Park Authority. The intent is to make the process more ‘bottom-up’ rather than ‘top-down’ and to give local people’s views more weight.

A Steering Group was set up by the Parish Council (who are the designated body to prepare the plan) and they are preparing a plan for Bury Parish. The intention is to prepare a plan to provide a clear framework to guide residents, local authorities and developers as to how the community wish to shape future development within the Parish over the next 15 years from 2017-2032.

Once it has been agreed at referendum and ‘made’, a neighbourhood plan has the same legal status as the Local Plan prepared by the relevant Local Planning Authorities (South Downs National Park Authority & Chichester District Council). At this point it becomes part of the statutory ‘development plan’ and used in the determination of planning applications.
